Approximately 24% of the Colombian population lives in rural areas, where extreme monetary poverty is three times higher than in urban areas, in addition, only 5% of rural youth over the age of 17 have a higher education degree and 63% of the population does not have access to productive assets such as land. credit, technology, or business training. As a result, it is estimated that by 2050 only 13% of the Colombian population will live in the countryside, while in 2017 this figure reached 30%. At the Bancolombia Foundation, as the Bancolombia Group’s platform for impact and social innovation, we have the purpose of promoting sustainable economic development in rural areas to achieve the well-being of all, as we understand the importance of the countryside for the development of the country. To achieve this, we focus our strategy on investing in innovative businesses that contribute to improving the competitiveness of rural areas, developing exceptional talent that accesses and generates opportunities, and mobilizing the talent and resources of the Bancolombia Group and allies to enhance the impact of our programs and projects.
