State of preschool, primary, and secondary education in the certified education secretariats. National bulletin 2020-2021

This document presents an analysis of access and quality of preschool, basic, and secondary education in Colombia in 2020 and some figures from 2021. After schools closed in March 2020, educational dynamics shifted to virtual environments, posing a challenge to guarantee learning in different socio-economic contexts. Despite efforts, negative effects on learning were observed, although the Saber 11° exam results for 2020 showed an increase in overall scores, partly due to a decrease in the number of students who took the exam. However, by 2021, scores slightly decreased as the number of students evaluated recovered. Regarding access and retention in the education system, no major changes were observed in 2020, but indicators such as school absenteeism and failure rates increased. The document concludes with reflections and recommendations to address the new educational needs in 2022.
