This document examines the budget allocated to the education sector in 2024. It highlights an 18.9% increase compared to the previous year’s budget, exceeding the expected inflation rate. The education sector remains the largest item in the national budget, representing 14% of the total, with the majority of these resources allocated to the Ministry of National Education. However, there is a reduction in resources aimed at improving quality, coverage, and strengthening early, preschool, basic, and secondary education, which contrasts with the aspirations of statutory education law projects. Additionally, a budget section was implemented for public universities, complying with a Constitutional Court ruling, reflecting a 2.42% increase over the previous year, with the majority allocated to operations. Higher education emerges as a priority, with significant increases in quality and promotion, as well as in allocations for public universities.
